How does a hearing aid work?
This device consists of three basic parts, namely a microphone, an amplifier and a speaker. The microphone receives sound, sends it to the amplifier (which makes the sound louder). The amplified signal is then converted to sound and sent in the ear through the speaker.

Different types of hearing aids
There are different types of hearing aids and may vary in size, power and the position where the hearing aid should be placed (inside or on the ear). Behind the ear (BTE), In the ear (ITE), In the canal (ITC) and Completely in the canal (CIC) are the common styles of hearing aids.

Diagnostics
The following are ear examinations that will help identify the appropriate type of hearing aid for people with hearing loss:
Pure tone audiometry (PTA)
Tympanometry
Speech audiometry
Tone decay
Play audiometry
