The CLSO Hosts 2013 Midyear Meeting

Subic Bay was the venue of the 2013 midyear meeting of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO). It was held last May 10-11, 2013 at the Subic Travelers Hotel. The organizer of the meeting was the Central Luzon Society of Ophthalmology (CLSO), headed by its president, Dr. Nilo "Jombit" Ramirez and co-organized by the PAO under vice president Dr. Harvey Uy. This was CLSO's third time to host a midyear meeting. The first was held in Mimosa Leisure Resort (Clark) in 1997 and the second was at the Fontana Convention Center (Clark) in 2002.

This year's theme was entitled Practice Management in Ophthalmology. It was a digression from the usual clinical meetings, and this time, the sessions were geared towards the business side of ophthalmic practice. Interesting topics included accounting and taxation, Philhealth guidelines, group vs. solo practice, country vs. urban practice, electronic medical records, investment products, and more.

As usual, the highlight of any midyear meeting is the fellowship night. It was held at the Subic Yacht Club. The theme was from the James Bond movie "Casino Royale". The organizers also arranged a Texas Holdem style poker contest. Surprisingly, the top three winners of the contest were all members of CLSO. First place went to Dr. Mia Labrador from Zambales, second was Dr. JJ Eclarinal from Olongapo and the last spot was none other than our president, Dr. Jombit Ramirez! A band also gave us some entertainment coupled with DJ music by the famous Nino Belza of 99.5 RT FM radio station. It was a well-attended night of fun, dancing, music, fellowship and, of course, loads of drinking!

To the CLSO officers & members, PAO officers & secretariat, Ophthalmic pharmaceutical companies and the rest of the eye doctors who attended the midyear convention, Thank you!
