Throat Disorders

A throat is the frontal portion of the neck that includes the larynx and the pharynx. It also includes the epiglottis, a vital part of the throat that divides the esophagus from the trachea. The throat is a tube shaped passageway that carries air to the lungs and food to the esophagus. Like the mouth and nose, the throat also has a mucous membrane and cilia, a hair-like structure that filters particles and fluids.

A throat infection is usually a frequent condition in children, but can also affect adults. Normally, symptoms, causes and treatment for both children and adults are similar.

The following are common throat disorders:
Epiglottitis
Laryngitis
Laryngoceles
Tonsillar Cellulitis and Abscess
Vocal Cord Contact Ulcers
Vocal Cord Paralysis
Vocal Cord Nodules and Polyps
